Brief Description

Below is only a brief description of assignments and tests. For detailed instructions and requirements see the assignment and test section in WebCT

Each assignment will be submitted by specified deadline through WebCT. Submit ONE (1) final electronic version. Late assignment (still submitted through WebCT) has two days extension until 12 midnight the next Monday. This will result in a loss of up to five (5) points from your grade. No credit will be given for assignments after this time. Detailed instructions and related materials are in the WebCT. Below are brief descriptions.

News/Case Analysis. In class presentation (5 minutes) of an assigned or chosen case/news

IS Topic Paper (2-person group). Each team will select an information systems topic from a list provided by the instructor. The team may suggest a topic not on the list with the approval from the instructor. The team will write a paper and present a 5-10 minute formal presentation to the class.

Students are expected to learn and practise MS Access on their own time. It is the student's responsibility to learn MS Access in order to apply the database tool to the aissignments. PCs installed with MS Access are available at the Pullen Library South (Wells) Computer Center, the Education Building, and Aderholt labs.

Database Assessment. A database assessment will be done to ensure that the students can complete the database project. This includes 4 mini projects in the database book. Students should do it individually.

Database Project (3-person group). There will be an MS Access database project. Each student should do a team evaluation.

Tests. Three tests will be given using objective questions (50 multiple choice questions) covering the designated chapters from the textbook. Failure to turn in either the exam and/or answer sheet will result in a zero (0) for the test grade.

Final Exam. The final exam consists of 100 multiple choice questions covering all chapters from the textbook. It is the students' responsibility to check the exam schedule for conflicts. Identify the conflict and notify the instructor (in writting) before the end of the second week of class. A conflict exam schedule will be established if needed.

Participation. Class attendance is expected and rewarded. I encourage everyone to participate in class activities, and respond to questions from other students. Participation points are based on in-class exercises, pop quizzes, surveys and other activities.

Other Issues

  • There will be NO BONUS POINTS beyond the 500 points identified in this syllabus.
  • There will be NO CURVING of grades in this class section.
  • This class is part of a standardized course curriculum, which allows each student to have the same opportunity to succeed no matter which time or instructor was selected.
